big_surSorry New York. You might have the Big Apple, but since 2002, surfy California has reigned supreme as the No. 1 place where Americans would like to live. That's according to a new Harris Poll that found pricey Hawaii at No. 2 and Florida, Colorado, and Arizona rounding out the top five.
What's the big attraction for the top-ranked states? The warm, dreamy sun in most cases, with the exception of Colorado, where, however, the sun often shines year-round and, of course, people love to ski. There was a bit of a generation gap in the findings. While California was tops for so-called Echo Boomers (aged 18 to 33) and Gen Xers (aged 34 to 45), Hawaii was tops for Baby Boomers (aged 46 to 64) and Matures (65 and over). For Echo Boomers, Hawaii dropped out of the top five, likely because its cost of living or remoteness -- or both. Here's entire Top 10 States Where the Most People Would Love to Live:
  • California
  • Hawaii
  • Florida
  • Colorado
  • Arizona
  • North Carolina
  • Oregon
  • Texas
  • New York
  • Washington
